Market Review- July 7, 2017

The US stock market finished the week mostly flat as it was announced  that our economy added nearly 220,000 jobs for the month of June.  Strong jobs numbers continue to build confidence in economist’s minds  regarding the strength of the US labor market. Also, the Federal Reserve  released the minutes from their June meeting, which showed that  inflation continues to trail their 2% target.

Looking back at the first half of the year we can see that the  S&P 500 had a return of 8.80%, while the US Aggregate Bond Index  returned 2.00%. These numbers show that investors who have maintained a  disciplined and diversified approach to investing in both stocks and  bonds have recently been rewarded.

Looking forward to the coming weeks, corporations will begin  releasing their second quarter earnings reports. Economists are hopeful  that we will see strong reports, particularly from the energy sector.
